Styrian GP - Race: Max Verstappen wins in Austria, leading Hamilton and Bottas.

Max Verstappen confirmed the overall quick pace he had all weekend, claiming another win, and exxtending his Championship lead by 18 points over Lewis Hamilton, who managed to finish second in Styria, just ahead of his team mate, Valtteri Bottas in P3. Max Verstappen now has 156 points and Lewis Hamilton has 138.


With Sergio Perez in P4, Red Bull also extended their Championship lead by 40 points over Mercedes, with the Austrian team now having 252, over Mercedes' 212.


Lando Norris finished in P5, ahead of the two Ferrari drivers, with Carlos in P6 and Charles Leclerc in P7. Completing the top 10, Lance Stroll in P8, Fernando Alonso in P9 and Yuki Tsunoda in P10.



Race Highlights (by lap)


Race Start: A very clean start by the top 4, with Max Verstappen leading Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and Sergio Perez.

Lap 1: Pierre Gasly had contact with Charles Leclerc and suffered a puncture, leading to his first DNF of the season. Charles Leclerc emerged the pits right afdter the incident to change his front wing, dropping to the back of the grid.

Lap 10: Sergio Perez passed Lando Norris for P3.

Lap 26: Lewis Hamilton almost lost control of his Mercedec in Turn 4, slightly touching the gravel trap.

Lap 27: George Russell pit to change to hard tyres but his car required a "reliability fix" as the Williams pit crew said, resulting him to drop from P7 to P18.

Lap 27 & 28: Sergio Perez pit for his tyre change, a slow pit stop (around 4.5 seconds) which allowed Valtteri Bottas to exit the pits ahead of him after he pit a lap later.

Lap 39: George Russell retired, after suspected engine issue.

Lap 56: Sergio Perez pit again, so he could chase Valtteri Bottas (P3) with a fresh set of tyres.

Lap 70: Lewis Hamilton, having a 14-second gap from leader Max Verstappen, and a 28-second gap to third, Valtteri Bottas, pit again to claim the extra 'Fastest Lap' point, and did so the next lap.

Lap 71: Sergio Perez, having a 6 laps old set of tyres, closed the gap between him and Valtteri Bottas to less than a second, but the Finn managed to stay ahead of him, securing the last place on the podium.

Post Race: Charles Leclerc got the fans' vote for 'Driver Of The Day', after a great recovery drive, from P18 to P7.
