Mexico GP 2022 - FP1: Ferrari on top, Perez follows in hectic session

Ferrari topped the first practice session of the Mexican GP weekend, with Carlos Sainz in P1, leading Charles Leclerc in P2, and Sergio Perez in P3.


Another rookie-ful FP1 came to an end, this time in Mexico City, as Formula 1 prepares for the Mexico Grand Prix, the home GP of Sergio Perez.

Liam Lawson subbed in for Yuki Tsunoda at AlphaTauri, securing a P16 before his car's brakes caught fire, with 2 minutes remaining on the clock of the session. Logan Sargeant, who drove for his 2023 team, Williams, was hoping to secure another Super Licence point, but only managed to complete 96 km (100 km needed for 1 SL point), and came 17th.

Nyck de Vries replaced George Russell at Mercedes, and completed the session in P18, ahead of Jack Doohan in P19, who drove for Alpine, subbing in for Esteban Ocon. Lastly, Pietro Fittipaldi took 20th, replacing Kevin Magnussen at Haas.


Carlos Sainz topped the first session of the Mexican GP weekend, followed by teammate, Charles Leclerc in P2 and Sergio Perez in P3.

Max Verstappen came 4th, ahead of Lewis Hamilton on P5 and Valtteri Bottas in P6. Lando Norris finished in P8, followed by Pierre Gasly in P9 and Sebastian Vettel in P10, completing the top 10.
