Italian GP 2022 - Track Guide

Here's everything you need to know ahead of this year's Italian Grand Prix, officially the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d’Italia 2022.

The Autodromo Nationale Monza was built in 1922, in just 110 days, with the first official Grand Prix taking place in 1950. Nino Farina took victory at the inaugural race of the circuit, with that being one his last win of the 1950 season.

What Monza gave us last year

It was the second time in 2021 that Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided in a battle for the lead. The incident happened as Hamilton emerged to the track from the pits, and found himself side by side with Verstappen through the Variante del Rettifilo. The two crashed with Verstappen ending up partially on Hamilton's car, and the Dutch driver receiving a 3-place grid drop for the next race. The two title contenders Daniel Ricciardo led a McLaren 1-2, the team's first since 2012.
