United States GP 2022 - Qualifying: Sainz wins quali battle with Leclerc and Verstappen

Carlos Sainz scored another pole position, this time on American soil, followed by Charles Leclerc in P2 and Max Verstappen in P3.

Q1: Both Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon seemed to be lacking the pace, as Mick Schumacher made a mistake on his last lap, leaving him out in Q1. Eliminated in Q1: Kevin Magnussen (P16), Daniel Ricciardo (P17), Esteban Ocon (P18), Mick Schumacher (P19) and Nicholas Latifi (P20)

Q2: A deleted lap for exceeding track limits brought Zhou's day to an earlier end, promoting Lando Norris into the top 10. Eliminated in Q2: Alex Albon (P11), Sebastian Vettel (P12), Pierre Gasly (P13), Zhou Guanyu (P14) and Yuki Tsunoda (P15).

Q3: Max Verstappen completed his first lap of the last leg of the session on a used set of soft tyres, only leaving the Dutch World Champion in P4, behind Leclerc, Sainz and Hamilton, but switched for a new set and was able to improve, starting tomorrow's race from P2 behind Sainz.

Carlos Sainz will start tomorrow's United States GP from pole position, followed by Charles Leclerc in P2, who will start the race from P12, as he received a 10-place grid penalty for switching to a new ICE and TC. Max Verstappen finished 3rd, but will start second, benefitting from Leclerc's penalty.

Sergio Perez in P4, followed by the two Mercedes drivers in P5 and P6, with Lewis Hamilton leading George Russell.

Lance Stroll finished 7th, and had much decent pace all day today, outpacing Lando Norris, who managed to place his McLaren in P8.

Completing the top 10, Fernando Alonso in P9 and Valtteri Bottas in P10.
