Singapore GP 2022 - Track Guide: F1's Night Race Is Back!
Here's everything you need to know ahead of this year's Italian Grand Prix, officially the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022.
The Marina Bay Circuit was built in 2008, as KBR Inc acquired Hermann Tilke's services, to create a city circuit like no other. The first ever Singapore Grand Prix was held by the track the same year it was constructed, with Fernando Alonso snatching a victory that left a controversial mark on F1's history books.
What Singapore gave us last time round
2019 was the last season the Singapore Grand Prix took place, as it was cancelled in both 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also Sebastian Vettel's last victory, which came after 392 winless days. It took three safety cars and a questionable strategy, but the finish line saw Vettel finishing first, 2.6 seconds ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. Ferrari arrived at the Marina Bay Circuit with an extremely updated car, and scored their first 1-2 of the season, and their first ever 1-2 in Singapore, when no one expected them to.
