Silly Season: Team principals speak

It’s officially the beginning of silly season, as both teams and drivers start to look ahead of 2023.

Some rumours have already emerged from the paddock, starting with the talks over Oscar Piastri’s possible F1 entry, and the speculations over Mick Schumacher’s future.

On today’s, latest news now, Otmar Szafnauer was positive, when asked if he thinks that Piastri will be racing in F1 next year. On Piastri potentially joining the F1 grid this year, the Alpine team principal added that he “wouldn’t rule it out”.

More of what Otmar Szafnauer said: “We’re contracted with Oscar, we have some options on him so there’s no real need to hurry that. We’ll take our time and at the right moment within the silly season we’ll have a look around and make those types of decisions.”

On top of that, AlphaTauri team principal, Franz Tost, has just confirmed that Pierre Gasly will stay with the Italian team in 2023. There have been some rumours that Gasly was in talks with McLaren and/or Alpine, but, with the Frenchman already having a contract with AlphaTauri, it’s only silly season rumours, as confirmed by the team principal.
