Italian GP 2022 - Qualifying: Leclerc gets pole position in Home GP, penalties disturb the order

Charles Leclerc secured pole position in Ferrari's Home Grand Prix, followed by Max Verstappen in P2 and Carlos Sainz in P3.

Q1: Nyck de Vries stepped in the FW44 to sub for Alex Albon who had to seek for medical help, as he is suffering with appendicitis, and managed to get through to Q2. Eliminated in Q1: Nicholas Latifi (P15), Sebastian Vettel (P16), Sebastian Vettel (P17), Lance Stroll (P18), Kevin Magnussen (P19) and Mick Schumacher (P20).

Q2: Yuki Tsunoda did not enter the track, as the team had already confirmed that he will start the race from the back of the grid. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz was the Eliminated in Q2: Esteban Ocon (P11), Valtteri Bottas (P12), Nyck de Vries (P13), Zhou Guanyu (P14) and Yuki Tsunoda (P15).

Q3: Charles Leclerc managed to "steal" the pole position away from both Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, going 0.142 sec faster than his opponents.


Charles Leclerc took pole position at his team's home Grand Prix, making the Tifosi happy once again on a Saturday, something they could really use after Ferrari's recent performance. Max Verstappen in P2, splitting the two Maranello based teammates, with Carlos Sainz right behind him in P3.

Lewis Hamilton took P4 but will start the Italian GP fro the back of the grid, followed by his Mercedes teammate, George Russell in P5, and the McLaren pair in P6 and P7, with Lando Norris leading Daniel Ricciardo.

Pierre Gasly finished in P9, as Fernando Alonso completed the top 10, placing his Alpine in P10.
