Hungarian GP 2022 - Qualifying: Flying Russell gets maiden pole, issues for Verstappen
George Russell gave his team the absolute thrill, scoring his first ever pole position, and Mercedes' first pole position for the 2022 season, around cloudy Hungary. With Verstappen not being able to talk back, the two Ferraris scored a 2-3 finish, as Carlos Sainz lead Charles Leclerc.

Rain never hit the track, despite the heavy, dark clouds that surrounded the track. All laps were completed with the soft compound, with the track having dried completely from FP3's rain.

George Russell managed to score his first ever pole position "out of nowhere", as he said, followed by Carlos Sainz in P2 and Charles Leclerc in P3.
Lando Norris placed his McLaren in P4, followed by the two Alpines, with Esteban Ocon leading Fernando Alonso.
Lewis Hamilton, despite finishing on top in Q1, had DRS issues second his outing in Q3, so P7 was all he could get from his first run.
