Austrian GP 2022 - FP1: Verstappen on top in a very interrupted session just ahead of Qualifying

Max Verstappen topped the first and only practice session ahead of this afternoon's qualifying, followed by Charles Leclerc in P2 and George Russell in P3.

Sunny skies in Austria, with the weather forecast predicting the same conditions for the rest of the weekend as well.

The session was interrupted twice with two separate red flag incidents: Lando Norris pulled to the side of the track, with smoke coming out from the bottom of his seat, 18 minutes into the session. It was resumed 10 minutes later, only to be red flagged again, 9 minutes after that, due to some debris at T6, an incident which left a little over 15 minutes for the drivers to use.

Max Verstappen topped the session, clocking a 1:06.302 on the soft compound, followed by Charles Leclerc in P2 and George Russell in P3.

Sergio Perez managed to climb up to P4, despite some outings he had during the session, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton in P5 and Kevin Magnussen in P6.

The two Spaniards took over P7 and P8, with Carlos Sainz leading Fernando Alonso, who completed his fastest lap on the medium compound.

Completing the top 10, Mick Schumacher in P9 and Yuki Tsunoda in P10.
