2021 Season Preview

Ahead of the 2021 Formula 1 season, we’re taking a look at everything we know about the teams’ and drivers’ dynamics so far.

Could this season be the end of Mercedes’ dominance?

Mercedes (and Mercedes powered teams as well) seemed to be having a number of issues throughout all 3 days of Pre-Season testing, while Red Bull was overall faster, more reliable, and more stable. That tells us we could have a true, close fight between the two teams. Of course, we shouldn’t judge the entire season from the results of testing only, but the end of Mercedes’ dominant era is a possible scenario.

Ending the 2020 season in P2, Red Bull decided to replace Alex Albon with Sergio Perez, in hopes he’ll manage to score more points for the team and help them with the Championship battle.

Our team’s predictions still place Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton at the top of the Championship standings, extending their dominance in the sport.

Midfield

Looking at the midfield teams, McLaren definitely looked very fast and stable in testing, coming from a very strong 2020. We think that another P3 in the Constructors’ Championship is possible for them, although the midfield battle is going to be very close this season as well.

We’re also looking at two rebranded teams, Aston Martin and Alpine, each having a multiple World Champion (Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso respectively) and a very strong and renewed Alpha Tauri, having two young drivers, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda, with the second one being a rookie.

Although Ferrari seemed to be more stable (from what we saw in testing), our predictions place the Italian team to finish somewhere between P5 and P7 in the Constructors’ Championship. We believe that the competition is going to be very increased this season, because all teams seem to have done significant progress, so even if Ferrari solved the engine-related issues they faced during the 2020 season, it’s probably still not enough for them to return to the front of the grid and the fight for the Championship.
